Channel 4 long ago moved away from its original incarnation providing thoughtful, intelligent alternative TV programmes. Today it relies on tacky ratings bait. But even by its already low standards, its decision to hand over money to the notorious Holocaust denier, David Irving, for a supposed lock of Hitler’s hair represents a new low. This was not in the cause of some worthwhile investigation or because there was a public interest being pursued. The sole motivation was to produce yet another of its shlock TV programmes. For shame.
