The JC's Labour leadership hustings was, of itself, a step in the right direction in rebuilding trust between the party and the community.
At the very least, three of the four candidates talked a good game about their determination to do just that. But it is striking that Jeremy Corbyn, the candidate in whom much of the interest was focused because of his links with supporters of terrorism , not only entirely failed to deal with those questions but has now emerged as the runaway leader in polls of the Labour electorate. Were he to be elected leader on 12th September, any rapprochement in the party's relations with the community would be killed stone dead.
Ed Miliband's time as leader would seem halcyon days in comparison.
