Hannan and Powell

I'm very annoyed with Daniel Finkelstein.

I've been writing a blog post on how good it is that Dan Hannan says what he thinks, that I agree with him on much that he says but not all, that I regard him as a friend and that Labour's desperate attempts to smear him and, by implication, the Conservative Party are despicable but, of course, entirely to be expected.

Then I was going to say that whilst I can understand his citing Enoch Powell as a hero over sovereignty and the need for a smaller state, he entirely misses the point about Powell, whose overall contribution to UK politics was thoroughly malign, and he was a man who deserved to be cast into the political wilderness.

And then I read Danny's post.

He has wasted ten minutes of my life, time I will never get back, by saying more or less everything I was going to say, only more eloquently. Harrumph.
