Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has personally intervened in row over the website’s “Gaza genocide” article after it temporarily blocked any new updates to the page until “editing disputes have been resolved".

In a post on the discussion page of the article, the tech entrepreneur, who has just released his first book The Seven Rules of Trust: Why It Is Today's Most Essential Superpower, explained why he was taking the unusual step of personally overseeing the article.

“I was asked point-blank in a high-profile media interview about this article, and I answered with transparency and honesty: this article fails to meet our high standards and needs immediate attention,” he said.

“As many of you will know, I have been leading an NPOV [neutral point of view] working group and studying the issue of neutrality in Wikipedia across many articles and topic areas, including ‘Zionism’. While this article is a particularly egregious example, there is much more work to do.”
