Israeli war veterans group Breaking the Silence has released a report in which IDF soldiers and officers who fought in Gaza last summer question the legality of the army's actions during the operation. The report claims: "IDF efforts to deter and intimidate the Palestinians led to massive and unprecedented harm to the population." One soldier claimed he witnessed two unarmed, unidentified women being killed by an Israeli drone. But former AP journalist Matti Friedman dismissed the report. He wrote: "Infantrymen at the bottom of the hierarchy often don't understand what they're seeing… and I'm speaking from experience… Drawing broad conclusions about Israeli military practice from 'testimonies' of this kind is irresponsible."
