The UN heritage organisation UNESCO is to take a vote on the Palestinian application for full membership on Monday.
To see their request fulfilled the Palestinians will need the support of more than two - thirds of the 193 members.
The United States plans to reject the bid and has cautioned that if UNESCO accepts it then the US could cut off aid to the Paris-based organisation. Nearly a quarter of UNESCO’s budget comes from the US.
