UN ambassador urges Security Council to condemn Hamas

articlemain

Israel’s United Nations envoy has called on the international body to “condemn Hamas terrorism” after more than 70 rockets were fired into southern Israeli cities yesterday.

Ron Proser, the former Israeli ambassador to the UK, issued a letter that urged members of the United Nations Security Council to “condemn Hamas terrorism without any equivocation or delay.

“Hamas and other terrorists in our region will interpret the silence of the Security Council as a green light for terror and provocation.”

“Parents cannot go to work – and children are not going to school… the damage to life and property continues to grow.

“Israel holds Hamas fully responsible [and] in response to these terrorist attacks, Israel has exercised – and will continue to exercise – its right to self-defence, as appropriate, and will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens.

“If the international community does not send a strong signal today, there could be tragic consequences tomorrow.”

An Israeli soldier was wounded in a rocket attack on the Israel-Gaza border, the IDF confirmed.

A copy of the letter was also delivered to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
