Two reserve soldiers have been killed in Lebanon over the weekend on the eve of Israel’s Memorial Day to honour the fallen, despite the ceasefire agreed last week.
Warrant Officer (res.) Barak Kalfon, from Maadi, a soldier in the 7056th Hiram Battalion, 226th Brigade, was fatally wounded on Friday and died a day later. He was 48 and leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
Sergeant First-class (res.) Lidor Porat, from Ashdod, a soldier in Battalion 7106, Regional Brigade 769, fell in battle on Saturday, aged 31.
Porat and his unit had been operating in Kafr Kila in southern Lebanon when their D-9 military bulldozer ran over an explosive device, causing it to detonate, according to Army Radio's Doron Kadosh.
Meanwhile, the IDF said on Sunday that 1,800 terrorists have been killed in Lebanon since the terror group joined Iran in the war in March.
“In the 24 hours prior to the ceasefire understandings taking effect, the IDF struck hundreds of terrorists and terror infrastructure used by Hezbollah to advance terror attacks against the State of Israel and IDF soldiers,” a statement said yesterday.
“In the strikes, the IDF struck over 150 Hezbollah terrorists, along with approximately 300 military infrastructure sites, including launchers, command centres, and weapons storage facilities across several areas in Lebanon.”
