The suspects also intended to attack military planes at the New York Air National Guard base at Stewart Airport, 60 miles outside New York City.
The four, who were being watched by the FBI for over a year, brought their missiles from an FBI informant who provided the group with an “inactive missile and inert explosives”, according to Joseph Demarest of the FBI.
“They had bags that were set up that they believed to be bombs, carrying about 30 pounds of explosives which they believed to be explosives," he added.
The have been charged with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and are due to appear in court today.
