Congregants were subjected to the Shabbat show for nearly an hour

A couple in America has been left red-faced after being caught getting intimate on a batmitzvah zoom call.

During a May 14th batmitzvah at the Beth El synagogue in Minneapolis, two congregants were spotted having sex, subjecting the assembled Zoom audience to a nearly 45-minute spectacle.

One of the embarrassed attendees to the special occasion told the NY Post that the congregation was subject to quite an eyeful.

The person, who saw the video firsthand said: “She was walking around naked, she got dressed, she’s in and out of the Zoom, he was in the bed, he whipped it out, she started going to work."

Eventually, the couple's amorous activities were brought to an end when an observer called one of the couple to alert them to their broadcast.

Beth El synagogue, in the midwestern state of Minnesota, describes itself as: "A vibrant home where Judaism is lived: community is family, learning inspires action, prayer touches the heart and deeds repair the world."

According to some rabbis, sex is specifically encouraged on Shabbat. According to Rabbi Naftali Brewer's Rabbi I have A Problem column from 2012: "Intimacy is encouraged on Shabbat not so much as a means to procreate as it is to create a bond between husband and wife.

"There are two separate mitzvot in the Torah that involve sexual relations. One is to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28.) The lesser-known mitzvah is for the husband to ensure he sexually satisfies his wife (Exodus 21:10)."

Whether the couple was studying the teachings of Exodus and Genesis is not clear, as one synagogue administrators refused to comment on the incident, telling the Post: “I’m aware of the incident and won’t be commenting on the details.”

The JC has reached out to Beth El Synagogue for comment.
