The wife of convicted fraudster Bernie Madoff has not visited him since their son committed suicide in December, according to a new biography.
Ruth Madoff, now 70, met her future husband when they were both in high school.
The financier was sentenced to 150 years in jail for his massive Ponzi scheme just a few months before the couple would have celebrated their golden wedding.
Before he was arrested, the Madoffs were the toast of New York society and regularly spotted at fundraisers and parties.
Madoff was jailed in June 2009 but his wife appeared to stick by him. However her reluctance to distance herself reportedly led to a split with other family members, including her sons.
According to biographer Diana Henriques, in a book published this week on Madoff's rise and fall, Ruth Madoff has cut off contact with her husband in the hope of reconciling with her other son.
"My sense is that Ruth is now focusing all her efforts on rebuilding a relationship with her surviving son, Andrew, and her grandchildren," said the author.
