A far-right website is trying to orchestrate an armed march through a town in the American state of Montana, specifically targeting “Jews and Jewish businesses”.
Andrew Anglin, the founder of the Neo-Nazi Daily Stormer hate-site, has called for the march in response to the alleged harassment of a resident there who is the mother of one of America’s most notorious white supremacists.
The town of Whitefish is home to Sherry Spencer, the mother of Richard Spencer, who is the head of the National Policy Institute, a white nationalist think tank. He gained notoriety after the US election, when footage of a rally showed him ending a speech with the words “hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory”. His audience responded with Nazi salutes.
Mrs Spencer has claimed she has been made to suffer because of her son’s views, specifically singling out a group called Love Lives Here for having supposedly targeted her family. The Daily Stormer site promptly listed the home addresses and phone numbers of the group, encouraging white supremacists to “make them feel the kind of pressure they are making us feel.”
The site subsequently promoted a march through the town, with Anglin writing: “we are going to be able to put together about 200 people to participate in the march, which will be against Jews, Jewish businesses and everyone who supports either.”
He continued: “Montana has extremely liberal open carry laws, so my lawyer is telling me we can easily march through the centre of the town carrying high-powered rifles.
“We’re shooting for the second week of January,” Anglin said. “Just before the inauguration.”
The Anti-Defamation League commented: “Not only is Anglin harassing the Jewish community of Whitefish, he is at the same time exploiting the situation there to promote antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power and control.
“He alleges that Jews have targeted white supremacists and antisemites but now he is somehow turning the tables on them.”
