Jewish stars Natalie Portman and Andrew Garfield are among the nominees for this year’s Oscars, it was announced today.

Ms Portman, the Jerusalem-born actress who already has one Academy Award to her name, was named in the best actress category for her performance in Jackie.

The biographical drama follows Jackie Kennedy in the aftermath of the 1963 assassination of her husband Presdient John F Kennedy.

Andrew Garfield was nominated for best actor for his role in Hacksaw Ridge, a story of heroism amid the horror of the Second World War.

The British actor and ‘Spiderman’ star plays the central role of Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist who enlisted in the US army fighting in the Far East.

A contender in the best original score catagory is composer Justin Hurwitz for his music for the hit film, La La Land. 

In the Razzie Awards, an irreverent celebration that serves as an antidote to Hollywood’s Oscars, by nominating the worst films of the year, actor, Ben Stiller was up for Worst Actor, in Zoolander 2.

Mr Stiller also directed the poorly-recieved 2016 American comedy sequel.
