Miss Universe hopefuls went for a swim in the Dead Sea at the weekend before returning to Eilat for Sunday’s televised competition.

Among them, Miss Ireland, Katharine Walker, spoke of a “bucket list moment” as she described the “incredible experience floating on the lowest point on earth."

The current Miss Universe - Andrea Meza - who is preparing to relinquish her crown, struck a more serious note as she visited the idyllic spot.

“I am in Kalia Beach at the Dead Sea and it’s a beautiful place as you can see, and talking with the locals, they were telling me about the issues they’re facing.

“The sea is drying up 1.2 metres a year which is very alarming and very sad,” she said in a video message posted on Twitter.

Contenders have also enjoyed trips to the Old City of Jerusalem, the Tower of David Museum and other sightseeing spots since arriving last week. https://twitter.com/katwalker21/status/1467191874486157328?s=21
