Jewish comedian and actress Sandra Bernhard has been cast in the upcoming fourth season of The White Lotus, the Emmy-winning HBO dark comedy created by Mike White.

The 70-year-old performer is known as much for her boundary-pushing stand-up, which began in the late 1970s, as for her more than 100 film and television credits, including recent roles in Marty Supreme and Severance.

Born to a Jewish family in Michigan, Bernhard has long woven her Jewish heritage into her comedy and public persona, speaking openly about identity, culture and belonging throughout her decades-long career.

Details of Bernhard’s role have not yet been revealed, but she joins previously announced Season 4 cast members including Helena Bonham Carter, who has spoken about her Jewish heritage, and Hunger Games actor Alexander Ludwig. The acclaimed series has won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards with 66 nominations since its premier in 2021.
