A three-year-old Israeli boy has died two days after he fell into a canal in the Mazury region of south-east Poland.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that the boy, whose name has not yet been published, fell into the water from a cruise boat docking at a marina.
He was pulled from the water and rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition. He was sedated and put on a respirator for two days before the doctors pronounced him dead late on Wednesday.
The Israeli consul to Poland, Nissim Eitan, is accompanying the family and the Israeli Foreign Ministry is having the boy’s body flown to Israel for burial. The coffin is expected to arrive in Israel before Shabbat comes in.
Earlier this week, a 6-year-old Israeli boy, Eitan Tityevsky, drowned in a swimming pool in the Turkish seaside city of Kemmer, while on a family vacation. Tityevsky was in the pool with his 10-year-old brother when guests noticed he was struggling and pulled him out of the water. Paramedics who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident declared him dead. Tytyevsky’s body was transferred to the Antalya Forensic Institute for an autopsy and was later flown to Israel for burial.
