The IDF has called up 100,000 reservists as Israel prepares for a protracted war with the Iranian regime across multiple fronts.
The troops will reinforce Israel on all sides, including its borders with Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, the military said in a statement.
The number appears to be in addition to the 50,000 reservists currently on duty.
Northern Command will reinforce both defensive and offensive units, while Central Command is focusing on counter-terrorism efforts.
Israel’s Southern Command will continue to defend the “yellow line” along the Gaza Strip, where operations against Hamas continue.
Reinforcements will be provided to all sectors in preparation for direct war with Iran or Iran-backed incursions, including to the Israeli Air Force, Navy, and Intelligence Directorate.
Of the 100,000 reservists called up, 20,000 will operate under the Home Front Command, mainly for search and rescue efforts.
The IDF said it would “prepare and provide the reserve service members with all the logistical means necessary to operate under the best conditions”.
The IDF said on Monday it had launched an “offensive battle” against Hezbollah, the same day Lebanon announced it would ban military activities by the terror group in the country and urged it to hand over its weapons.
There are close to half a million reservists in total in Israel, and they constitute about 70 per cent of the IDF’s full strength, according to estimates.
The largest call-up of reservists in Israel since the 1973 Yom Kippur War was following October 7, when roughly 360,000 reservists were activated.
