Jewish mothers have a reputation for being overbearing, but Kate Siegel's mother takes it a step further than most.
On the receiving end of text messages such as "I really worry about ur vagina" and "U can't skip two workouts. A blizzard is no excuse," Ms Siegel realised that she needed to share her pain with the rest of the world.
Ms Siegel's Instagram account, @crazyjewishmom, now updates 328,000 followers every time her mother calls her "Spawn", labels her apartment "the Deathtrap", and describes her boyfriend - sarcastically, as he is yet to propose or provide her with grandchildren - as "Superjew".
Ms Siegel, whose mother uprooted the whole family to follow her to New York from Los Angeles when she moved out, told BuzzFeed: "Instagram is cheaper than therapy."
As well as constantly voicing fears about her daughter's appearance, diet, safety and future children, her mother also tells her about men she wants her daughter to date, despite Ms Siegel having a boyfriend. She wrote to her daughter: "Kate the Cornell guy I've been talking to on jdate is def ur soul mate."
When her daughter responded that taking over her identity on a dating website was crazy, her mum replied: "Crazy is wasting your eggs on the Superjew who can't commit. I set a date with Mr Cornell this Thurs night. He loves theatre and wants 4 kids".
