A former Chasid jumped to her death from a rooftop bar in New York on Monday.
Faigy Mayer, 30, carried out the apparent suicide after climbing onto a ledge during a party on the roof of the 230 Fifth restaurant in the Flatiron District.
Ms Mayer grew up as a Belz Chasid in the Williamsburg community of Brooklyn, New York media outlets reported.
She was the founder, CEO and developer of Appton, a start-up specialising in mobile apps, and graduated in accounting from the City University of New York.
On her Twitter profile, she described herself as a “Former Chasid who codes in iOS. Love coding, beacons, bacon, the appleWatch and life!”
Ms Mayer was a member of Footsteps, a group that provides “social and emotional support, educational and vocational guidance, workshops and social activities, and access to resources” to members of the strictly-Orthodox community who wish to leave.
Friends on her Facebook page said Ms Mayer struggled with depression.
