Israel’s flag carrier El Al has confirmed it will resume flying to nine additional destinations later this week following the ceasefire in the Iran War.
Hundreds of flights to and from the region were cancelled after hostilities broke out in February, with foreign ministries across the world advising citizens not to travel to the Middle East.
However, since the US and Iran agreed to a truce last week, airlines have been steadily returning to their regularly scheduled routes.
Confirming the destinations on its social media, El Al said it would recommence flights to Boston, London Luton, Tivat (Montenegro), Krakow (Poland), Marseille (France), Sofia (Bulgaria), Paphos (Cyprus), as well as Rhodes and Thessaloniki in Greece.
This will bring the total number of active El Al routes back up to 40, the airline went on.
If flights have not yet resumed to a particular destination, passengers will be contacted to check whether they still wish to travel, it added.
Meanwhile, a number of foreign airlines have also confirmed that they will restart their own services to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport.
Bluebird Airways (Greece), ALK Airlines (Bulgaria), TUS Airways (Cyprus), Smartwings (Czechia), Georgian Airways (Georgia), FlyOne (Moldova), Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopia), Etihad Airways (United Arab Emirates) and Hainan Airlines (China) are expected to restart their flight routes, according to Israel’s broadcaster Channel 12.
Discussions are also underway to resume flights with Emirati company FlyDubai as soon as this week, with low-cost airline Wizz Air announcing last week it will restart its flights from Israel on April 25, the report continued.
British Airways was the first foreign airline to announce its resumption of flights to and from Israel, although these are scheduled to begin on July 1.
During the war, United Airlines and Air Canada have suspended their flights to Israel until September 7, and have not readjusted their decision.
