The Knesset has voted to allow strictly-Orthodox schools to avoid teaching core subjects such as maths and English. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had promised Charedi MKs he would remove the requirement as part of the coalition deal. Centrist party Yesh Atid was highly critical of the decision, saying: “The Israeli government has sold our children’s future”.
