The Canadian Jewish News won a reprieve from extinction on June 13 when its board of directors unanimously approved a new business plan to attract new advertisers and subscribers and revamp its structure.
The plan included new editorship and reducing costs by sacking a number of its 50 employees, including three long-time writers.
The 42-year-old weekly — considered by most to be the 375,000-strong Canadian Jewish community’s newspaper of record — announced on April 22 that it would be closing due to rising costs and falling revenues.
