The president of Bulgaria's Football Association has resigned after a Euro 2020 qualifier match between England and Bulgaria was halted twice because fans in the Bulgaria half were seen making Nazi salutes and monkey chanting.

Borislav Mihaylov had complained to UEFA before the match about "unjust branding" of Bulgarian fans after a partial stadium ban was imposed due to fears England's players could be subjected to abuse.

However, a group of men were seen making the salutes in the stadium at Monday night's match in Sofia, directing the monkey noises at the black English players on the pitch.

UEFA officials were notified by England manager Gareth Southgate, and the match was paused twice in the first half.
