Vice President Joe Biden's daughter is to follow in the footsteps of Chelsea Clinton and marry a Jewish man.

Ashley Biden, a social worker, is engaged to a doctor from Philadelphia, Howard Krein, who specialises in facial and reconstructive surgery and ear, nose and throat complaints.

The Biden family, who are Roman Catholic, said they were "thrilled" by the news.

The couple have been together for a year and became engaged in September.

Last year Ms Clinton married Jewish investment banker Mark Mezvinsky in an interfaith ceremony in which the couple stood under a chuppah.

Laurie Goldman, a writer and former patient of Dr Krein, wrote on her blog: "Howard is proud of being Jewish, so expect some Jewish elements at the wedding."
