A mural of the Bibas family, who were kidnapped on October 7, 2023 and murdered by Hamas, has been defaced in Milan for a second time.
The artwork, which depicts Shiri Bibas and her two young sons, Kfir and Ariel, was vandalised for the second time in two weeks at an October 7 memorial event in the city.
On this occasion, both the face of Shiri Bibas and the Star of David on the flag draped over her child's back, were scrawled over with white paint.
On October 21 the face of Shiri Bibas was covered with a piece of paper illustrated with a picture of a child in a gunsight with the words "no war" written across it.
The vandalism prompted French philosopher and writer Bernard-Henri Lévy to label it a “vile gesture against the memory of the victims”.
The mural was created by artist Alexsandro Palombo, an artist with a history of having his Jewish-related pieces vandalised.
His mural honouring Nova Festival survivor Vlada Patapov was defaced just hours after its unveiling in 2024.
Other murals by the artist have been defaced as well, including those of Holocaust survivors Liliana Segre, Sami Modiano, and Edith Bruck.
