Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has blamed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for the incident, accusing him of “incitement to an attack on Jews in Jerusalem”.
“This is how [Abbas’s] partners in government work. This is the same Abbas who only a few days ago called for harming Jews in Jerusalem,” said Mr Netanyahu.
The Prime Minister has ordered police reinforcements in the capital after holding talks with minister of internal security Yitzhak Aharonovitch.
The driver, identified as Abdel Rahman Al-Shaludi, was shot by security forces at the scene and later died in hospital.
Mr Al-Shaludi was a resident of Silwan, a neighbourhood around three miles from Ammunition Hill, who recently served time in prison for security offences.
