A French man has told police he was the victim of a vicious antisemitic attack in the elevator of a residential building in Paris.

The alleged victim of the incident – who has been identified only as David S – said he was followed into the lift of a residential building in the city’s 19th arrondissement and was told by one two offenders: “Dirty Jew, dirty Jewish son of a whore, you’re a dead man, dirty Jew.”

The victim, who is aged 29, said he was then left unconscious for several minutes after being attacked by the two men who fled when the elevator stopped on the floor that his parents lived on.

The incident is alleged to have taken place last Thursday and his police complaint has emerged in a statement written by the nongovernmental watchdog group National Bureau for Vigilance Against Antisemitism, or BNVCA, this week.

Medical staff prescribed eight days of rest for David.  He had sustained minor injuries to the face and throat.

In France, the number of rest days prescribed to assault victims may affect the sentence passed on offenders in case of a conviction.
