The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has announced it will donate £19,000 to the Archdiocese of New York to fund repairs to the Holy Family Church in Gaza City, which was inadvertently damaged in an Israeli strike last month.

The church was hit by shrapnel from an Israeli munition on July 17, killing three people and injuring several others. The IDF has said the impact was unintentional and that the building was struck by "stray ammunition" and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said he "deeply regrets" the accident.

Confirming an investigation into the error, a prime ministerial spokesperson said: “Israel deeply regrets that a stray ammunition hit Gaza’s Holy Family Church.

"Every innocent life lost is a tragedy. We share the grief of the families and the faithful.
