A man has celebrated the barmitzvah of his liver.
Toronto academic Frank Bialystok underwent a liver transplant in 1998.
Thirteen years later, he decided to mark the organ's birthday with a traditional Jewish coming of age ceremony.
Mr Bialystok, who organised the event with the help of his wife Ellen, said before he read from the Torah: "My pre-owned liver and I are privileged to be here with you as we undertake this symbolic rite of passage."
At the service the rabbi took the opportunity to state that organ donation could be compatible with Jewish law.
