President Trump has announced he will impose 25 per cent tariffs on any country that trades with Iran following the brutal crackdown on mass anti-government protests in the Islamic Republic.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump wrote: “Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America.”

More than 100 countries currently trade with Iran, including the UK, despite its imposition of strict sanctions on the country.

According to a guidance page on the British government’s website, “UK law permits trade with Iran, though UK companies must comply with UK and UN sanctions and UK export controls”.
