She has since claimed to be the victim of a ‘smear’ campaign, saying: ‘In order to silence you speaking out, to silence me, they do what they always do, twist your words, label you an antisemite’

Iraqi-American makeup boss Huda Kattan has claimed that there is evidence that Israel was responsible for both world wars.
Kattan, founder of makeup brand Huda Beauty, has nearly two million followers on TikTok. In a video posted to her account last week, she also accused Israel of deliberately allowing the October 7 massacre to happen.
In the video, which she has since deleted, she spoke of "conspiracy theories" about the Jewish state and said that there is "a lot of evidence behind them".
Such theories, she claimed, included those that Israel was "responsible for 9/11", that it "allowed October 7 to happen" that it is is "hiding... paedophiles". And she claimed that evidence exists that Israel was behind both world wars.
Discussing the October 7 attacks, she alleged: "Netanyahu was warned about October 7 so many times and [he] told the army to stand down so that October 7 could happen.”
There is no evidence that this occurred, with the IDF responding to the attacks to defend border communities, though the military has since admitted there were significant security failures in the build-up to the massacres.
Kattan went on: "Israel allows all this stuff to happen... They hire people to hide all this stuff."
And she also used her video to encourage her followers to follow suit and "speak up" about these theories.
Her remarks were met with fierce backlash from Jewish and pro-Israel groups, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
Since Kattan’s rant, the ADL has requested that the firm’s product partnership with Sephora and other retailers be reviewed.
Likewise, several petitions have been launched calling for her products to be banned from Sephora stores. They have already garnered tens of thousands of signatures.
In response to the calls to drop Huda Beauty products, a Sephora spokesperson told industry news outlet Cosmetics Business: “Sephora is driven by its mission to create a welcoming and inclusive shopping experience for all.
“We recognise that comments from one of our brand partners have raised concerns and want to be clear: promoting hate, harassment, or misinformation does not align with our values or code of conduct.
“We take this matter very seriously and can confirm we are actively reviewing this issue internally, including working with the brand."
This review has been welcomed by Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the ADL, who said: “Sephora’s statement is an important signal that major retailers are beginning to recognize the serious implications of platforming hate.
“We are encouraged by this step – and we will be watching closely to see whether it is followed by meaningful action. No brand should be given a pass when its founder spreads dangerous antisemitic myths.”
Kattan has subsequently posted another video defending her comments, saying: “A lot of people were taking it out of context and did not want that conversation happening.
“I never said anything about Jews, or even the Israeli people, so I chose to remove the video.
“It is no secret that I have been speaking out about Palestine for quite some time, and that happened as a result of me learning about the Palestinian cause.
“[I was] feeling really frustrated seeing so much injustice happening to the people of Palestine, to the children in Gaza."
She went on: “In order to silence you speaking out, to silence me, they do what they always do, twist your words, label you an antisemite, and right now I am experiencing all of those things.
“I have been labelled an antisemite, and now there is a smear campaign against me, and I do want to address being called an antisemite, because I would never condone any hate of any kind, that of course includes Jewish hate.
“And honestly, I would never talk about any people, because I stand against hate and discrimination. The video was misinterpreted.”
