Seventy per cent of American Jews intend to vote Biden, new poll says

Similar numbers have been achieved by the Democratic candidate in the previous two elections

An overwhelming majority of Jews intend to vote for Joe Biden in November’s election, a new poll by the Pew Research Centre says.

The survey, conducted earlier this month, found 70 per cent of American Jews will vote for Democratic presidential nominee, with 27 per cent voting for President Trump.

Such a result would reflect the previous two elections: in 2016, Hillary Clinton won 71 per cent of the Jewish vote, while Mr Trump won 25 per cent; and in 2012, Barack Obama took 69 per cent to Mitt Romney’s 30 per cent.

The poll also found that a similar proportion of Jews – as compared to the general American population - approved of Mr Trump’s record in office (35 per cent to 38).

It suggests that, despite Mr Trump’s recent interventions in the Middle East in Israel’s favour – including brokering peace deals between the Jewish state, the Unite Arab Emirates and Bahrain, and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem – only a minority of Jews domestically want to see him take up a second term.
