The head of the Unite union Len McCluskey has decried the "hurt caused by the Jewish community" in an apparent slip-up during a radio discussion of Labour antisemitism.

On BBC Radio Four's World At One on Thursday, Mr McCluskey, a long-time supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, said the Chief Rabbi's intervention over the party's antisemitism crisis was "wrong and quite extraordinary".

"That was wrong and quite extraordinary that a religious leader would come out and say that," he said.

"The reality is this. Everybody should be concerned and sorry about the type of hurt that has been caused by the Jewish community.

"Labour has fought. Jeremy Corbyn has fought and I have fought all my life against antisemitism."
