A London mosque recently placed under investigation by the Charity Commission over allegations that it hosted an antisemitic preacher had published an earlier talk by the same cleric who blamed “all evil” in the Muslim world on Jews.
The charity regulator said this week it was probing Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre after The Telegraph reported it hosted in January Egyptian preacher Yosry Gabr, also known as Yusri Jabar, who had allegedly said previously: “The final war will begin in which we will kill every Jew”.
However, Gabr had made further chilling references to Jews during a sermon put out on the mosque’s YouTube channel in May 2023.
In that address he claimed the anticipated false messiah would be supported by Jews from Isfahan in Iran and alleged that “all evil” in the Muslim world stemmed from Iran and “the Jews who pose as ayatollahs”.
Gabr said: “Tehran was called Isfahan in those days, the days of the prophet. So he said when he appears and announces himself in Isfahan, he will be supported by 70,000 Jews from Isfahan, wearing tayalisa (a scarf around the neck and shoulders). And we now know that Iran is leading evilness in the entire Muslim land, it is arming Muslims against other Muslim sects, make them fight each other and this provoked that all evil stemmed from this devil.
“He is currently leading evil through Iran and through the Jews who pose as ayatollahs and wear tayalisa. The Rafidi and Safavid ideology is originally Jewish, outwardly professing Islam while concealing disbelief within.
"Those are his supporters and they are there, therefore, we are living through this tribulation; and consequently, everything that is happening in this era, the spread of lies and deceptive media, the glorification of obscenity, immorality, nudity, and sexual deviance, and men engaging sexually with men while women do the same with women, all stems from this devil.”
The Telegraph reported that, in a video posted online in January, Gabr said: “Wars will stop after killing the Jews – there will be no wars after killing the Jews.” It also reported that, in another video, he said: “The final war will begin in which we will kill every Jew. They know this, the Jews know they will be killed.”
Gabr had previously called for Jews to be killed, supported armed violence against Israel in Gaza and backed jihad against the West, according to the newspaper.
Despite this history, the National Secular Society (NSS) noted that Hounslow Jamia Masjid hosted Gabr on July 12 and 13 this year.
The Charity Commission confirmed this week it had launched a probe into the Hounslow centre after “serious concerns” were raised about the mosque and said it would consider a formal complaint submitted by the NSS.
Those nasty ayatollahs? They are nefarious Jews! At the service of the Devil, as his vanguard now that the End Times are upon us.

The NSS complaint also referred to a January 2023 lecture delivered by the mosque's head imam, Shaykh Ammar Siddiqui, which was streamed on the mosque's YouTube channel and was based on Advice for the LGBTQ, a book which “seeks to clarify the Muslim religious position” on the subject “by referring to the Qur'an and the Hadith”.
According to both the NSS and The Telegraph, Siddiqui told attendees that the “LGBTQ agenda” was “to destroy the human race” because same-sex couples cannot reproduce. The lecture began by stating it was intended “especially for our young ones, those who are attending schools especially.”
During the lecture, Siddiqui also discussed the death penalty for homosexual acts in some Islamic states. He said such punishments were imposed by Muslim rulers rather than individuals and described them as “a deterrence” intended to discourage people from engaging in same-sex relationships. He added that the punishments existed “not because we need to wipe out those people.”
The NSS argued that the comments appeared to condone the execution of gay people under Islamic legal systems and asked the Charity Commission to assess whether the charity should retain charitable status and continue operating an independent school.
The secular campaign group also noted that Hounslow Jamia Masjid has received approximately £546,890 in government grants since 2021 and operates Suffah Primary School. It cited a recent Ofsted inspection which found failures in safeguarding systems and record-keeping at the school.
Megan Manson, the NSS's head of campaigns, said: “It's outrageous that a registered charity, which has received hundreds of thousands in public money, has hosted a preacher who calls for the death of Jews and suggests to children it is acceptable for Islamic states to execute gay people.
“We urge the Charity Commission to evaluate this organisation's suitability as both a registered charity, and the proprietor of a school.”
A Charity Commission spokesperson said charities “must not allow their premises, events or online content to become forums for hate speech against any community.”
The spokesperson added: “Following serious concerns raised in the media about an individual connected to Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre, we have opened a regulatory compliance case to gather more information and to engage with the charity's trustees. We have since received a complaint from the National Secular Society and will be considering the contents of this complaint as part of our case.”
In a statement given to the JC before Gabr’s 2023 comments came to light, Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre Trust said it had no evidence that Gabr held or had repeated the views attributed to him while in the UK.
“We have no evidence that he holds or has repeated any such views in the UK, nor were any such views expressed during his talk at our mosque," the trust said.
It added that Gabr had been granted a UK visitor visa and that it relied on the Home Office's assessment of visa applicants.
The trust said it was “committed to upholding British values, promoting harmony across our diverse community, and operating at all times in full accordance with the law and Charity Commission guidance.”
It added: “We reject all forms of hatred and we will cooperate fully with the Charity Commission in there [sic] investigation.”
After the JC approached Hounslow Jamia Masjid about releasing Gabr’s inflammatory 2023 speech, the mosque’s YouTube channel was disabled.
