Lay magistrate in Scotland allegedly promoted antisemitic video

EXCLUSIVE: The clip contained conspiracy theories about the Rothschilds and others

A lay magistrate in Scotland allegedly promoted an antisemitic video claiming the Rothschilds are among five families who secretly control the world.

A 2016 post visible on broadcaster and Justice of the Peace Amjid Bashir’s Facebook profile last week contained a link to a five minute video featuring several baseless claims about the Rothschilds and others.

The clip, viewed over 6 million times on YouTube, says the family “maintains its control through the US Federal Reserve” and historically funded both sides of the Napoleonic wars.

“Not really one for conspiracies but this is interesting on how 5 ultra wealthy families have some [sic] much power,” read the accompanying caption.

JPs are appointed by the Scottish government and given criminal law training to deal with summary offences.

When contacted for comment, a Judicial Communications spokesperson said “this matter is now under consideration by the Judicial Office for Scotland.”

“All judicial office holders receive training about, and are bound by, the Statement of Principles of Judicial Ethics, and must uphold high standards of professional conduct,” the spokesperson said.

Mr Bashir did not return a request for comment on Monday but in a Facebook post last week, he wrote that he stood “against all hate and discrimination #islamophobia #racism #antisemitism #hate”.
