It’s the biggest health story of the last few years, and now Chabad have weighed in on the debate around Ozempic, offering a Jewish take on the controversial weight loss medication.

Originally developed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes, Ozempic became popular for weight loss in late 2021 and 2022 following the FDA approval of a higher-dose version called Wegovy for obesity.

In the years since, Ozempic has become a household name on both sides of the Atlantic, with other similar drugs like Mounjaro (also originally developed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes) also entering the market.

Now Chabad have weighed in on the debate, asking: “Is it OK to use such medications to enhance your appearance when it's not a medical necessity?”
