Two people, including an Iranian man, have been arrested while trying to enter a nuclear submarine base in Scotland.
Police confirmed that the 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman had been detained outside HMNB Clyde on Thursday.
The woman’s nationality is currently unknown.
The base houses Britain’s Vanguard class atomic submarines, which are equipped with Trident 2 missiles as part of the country’s nuclear deterrent programme.
According to a report in The Sun ”a defence insider said the suspects had attempted to drive into HMNB Clyde on Thursday afternoon but were turned away by Ministry of Defence Police”.
"They remained in the vicinity of the base in their vehicle and ‘were acting suspiciously’,” it went on.
A Royal Navy spokesperson confirmed that two people “unsuccessfully attempted to enter HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday 19 March”.
"As the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further,” they added.
And a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde.
“A 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman have been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
