A 45-year-old man has been charged following the knife attack in Golders Green on Wednesday, which left two Jewish men in hospital.
Essa Suleiman, from South London, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He has also been charged with another count of attempted murder in connection with an unrelated incident, which occurred hours before the Golders Green attack in Southwark.
Authorities have confirmed that Suleiman is a British national who was born in Somalia and came to the UK “lawfully as a child”.
The two victims of Wednesday’s stabbing have been named as Moshe Shine, 76, and Shloime Rand, 34.
Rand has since been discharged from hospital, and told the BBC upon his release: “I am happy. A very big miracle happened to me. I feel like God has given me back my life [back]. I was stabbed through my chest. My lungs have to recover. The oxygen is now reduced, but I hope I will be better soon.”
Shine remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, which is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victims involved, and specialist officers continue to provide them with support as their recovery continues.
“We are determined to get justice for the victims, and now that a person has been charged, I would urge everyone to avoid any further speculation in relation to this case so that justice can run its course.”
Frank Ferguson, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said: “We have authorised two charges of attempted murder against Essa Suleiman, and one of possession of a knife, after two men were stabbed in Golders Green, north west London, on Wednesday, 29 April.
"We have also authorised an attempted murder charge in a separate incident involving another man on the same day in a different location.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command as it carried out its investigation.
Suleiman has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 May.
