Four men from Blackburn have been charged in connection with alleged antisemitic abuse that was heard being blared through a megaphone as a pro-Palestinian convoy made its way through north London in May.

A video of the incident appeared to feature a voice shouting 'F**k the Jews, rape their daughters' as cars with Palestinian flags approached a traffic light in St John’s Wood.

The men, Mohammed Iftikhar Hanif, 27; Jawaad Hussain, 24; Asif Ali, 25; and Adil Mota, 26,  were charged via postal requisition on 16 September with using threatening, abusive or insulting words, or behaviour, with intent, likely to stir up racial hatred.

The Community Security Trust welcomed "the news that four men have been charged in connection with antisemitic abuse being shouted from a car convoy on Finchley Road, north London, May 2021."

In a statement posted on Twitter it "thanked Met Police for their work on this investigation.”

Stephen Silverman, director of investigations and enforcement at Campaign Against Antisemitism, said: "We are pleased that suspects have now been charged but the convoy should never have been allowed in the first place and there remain many other unsolved crimes committed against British Jews from that same period of fighting between Hamas and Israel. The perpetrators in these cases must be brought to justice.”
