GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - JANUARY 31: Members of the public walk past a government poster reminding people to socially distance and abide by the lockdown restrictions in the city center on January 29, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. This week, nearly 104,000 have died due to covid-19 in the United Kingdom, according to the Office for National Statistics and its counterparts in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The agencies registered an additional 7,776 deaths with coronavirus cited on the death certificate in the most recent week. (Photo by Jeff J Mitchell/Getty Images)

Pupils at a yeshiva in Gateshead went on a break to London this weekend - but the school has insisted it was Covid-19 compliant.

Yeshiva L'zeirim Tiferes Yaacov Gateshead refused to confirm any additional details when contacted by the JC on Monday.

A spokesperson said: “We consulted with our legal adviser, who said it's permitted by law and we confirmed it with Northumbria Police.”

The yeshiva advised parents in a letter last week all travel arrangements should be made privately in light of “potential press that mass travel could cause.”

The Charedi community has recently faced increased scrutiny on the issue after police broke up a wedding reception at a girls’ school in Hackney last month.
