An armed assailant attempted to enter the embassy compound but was foiled by police
April 30, 2025 10:32Israel’s embassy in London has confirmed that it was subjected to an “attempted terror attack” on Monday in which a knife-wielding assailant attempted to enter the building.
The embassy confirmed on social media that the attacker had “tried to penetrate the Embassy of Israel in order to carry out a terror attack”.
However, they were apparently foiled by security forces, with officers preventing them from doing any harm to those in the building . No injuries have been reported and “all embassy staff and visitors are safe”, the embassy added.
A source told the Daily Mail: “From what I know someone was trying to climb into the building up the walls of the embassy and they were armed with a weapon.
"The weapon was a knife of some sort, he was definitely armed and was wearing a keffiyeh.
“He managed to get very close to where staff members were, so naturally people were absolutely terrified.”
Police confirmed that they had charged 33-year-old Abdullah Sabah Albadri with a terror offence, as well as possessing a bladed article, in connection with the attack.
Albadri, of no fixed abode, remains in custody and is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
Authorities have confirmed they are not seeking any other suspects and that there is no further risk to the public.
A spokesperson for the Israeli mission to the UK said: “The State of Israel and its diplomats have always been subjected to terror threats and even more so after the 7th of October, 2023.
“On 28 April, 2025, there was an attempted terror attack from an armed man with a knife who tried to penetrate the Embassy of Israel in order to carry out a terror attack.
"We thank the British security forces for their immediate response and ongoing efforts to secure the Embassy.
“The Embassy of Israel will not be deterred by any terror threat and will continue to represent Israel with pride in the UK.”
Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command added: "We remain in close contact with those based at the Embassy of Israel and we appreciate that these charges will be concerning to them.
"I would like to reassure the public, however, that from our enquiries so far, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter and we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.
"Although the man has now been charged, we continue with our investigation and would urge the public not to speculate further at this time."
