Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson has accused Jeremy Corbyn of a "total dereliction of duty" over his failure to "root out antisemitism in his own party."

Speaking at the party's General Election campaign launch she also "categorically" ruled out helping put the Labour leader into Number 10.

Introduced by Luciana Berger, the party's candidate in Finchley and Golders Green, Ms Swinson said that party's pro-Remain stance was based around "the value of equality".

She said: "One of those values that is so important is the value of equality.

"Recognising people can be themselves, individuals, whatever the colour of their skin, whatever God they prey to - whoever they are.

"Jeremy Corbyn's complete and utter failure to root out antisemitism in his own party is a total deraliction of duty when it comes to protecting that value of equality."

She then made reference to Ms Berger's departure from the Labour Party in February.

"She didn't want to leave the Labour Party. She was driven out of the Labour Party and, just two weeks ago, we had Louise Ellman in the same position."

Questioned about suggestions that the Lib Dems would be unable to turn down the chance of joining a coalition government with Labour after the December 12 election, Ms Swinson said:"I'm absolutely, categorically ruling out Liberal Democrat votes putting Jeremy Corbyn into Number 10.

"Let me tell you why.

"On so many grounds Jeremy Corbyn is not fit for the job of the Prime Minister.

"On the biggest issue of the day he has prevaricated and will not give a straight answer.

"Even if you ask him if he is Leave or Remain, he will not tell you how he would vote.

"His plans for the economy would take us back to the 1970s. I believe he would be a threat to our national security."
