The National Union of Students (NUS) has disqualified a candidate from standing for election to its executive council after complaints concerning alleged antisemitism on his social media accounts.

As the JC reported, Zeid Truscott a University of Bath student, shared an article five years ago alleging that Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was trained by Mossad.

Mr Truscott has also tweeted that Israel was a “racist, apartheid state created through terrorism and ethnic cleansing”.

NUS Chief Returning Officer Jules Mason tweeted a statement on Wednesday morning saying: “Despite being informed of the potential of disqualification [Mr Truscott] has not complied with my ruling in respect to a complaint made about them concerning antisemitism whilst a candidate.

"As a result, I have disqualified that candidate from this year’s NUS NEC Block of 15 election.”

Mr Truscott previously declined to apologise for the posts, saying that he rejected accusations of antisemitism.
