Monitoring group set to challenge BBC over Israel coverage

articlemain

A group monitoring the BBC is hosting two events that will call on the corporation to revise its "negative" media coverage of Israel ahead of its charter renewal next month.

BBC Watch asks if the BBC lives up to its self-proclaimed standards of excellence and accountability in its reporting of the Middle East.

An invitation-only discussion for 70 politicians and journalists will be held in Parliament on November 9.

Chaired by Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer, the event aims to “examine BBC Middle East coverage within the framework of Britain’s counter-extremism strategy”. Panelists will include cross-bench peer Baroness Deech, Professor Richard Landes of Bar Ilan University and Hadar Sela, managing editor of BBC Watch.

On November 10, a debate in north London on the impact of BBC coverage of Israel on attitudes towards Jews in the UK will feature lecturer and writer Denis MacEoin, Jonathan Turner, the chair of UK Lawyers for Israel, law lecturer Lesley Klaff and Hadar Sela.
