Man arrested after United Synagogue burial chief attacked

The attack happened near the victim's Chigwell home earlier this month

A man from East London has been arrested in connection to an attack on the United Synagogue's burial chief.

Melvyn Hartog was struck on the back of his head and kicked and he fell to the floor during the incident close to his home in Chigwell earlier this month.

A 33-year-old man from Clapton was arrested on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated assault causing actual bodily harm.

He was released on bail until January 27.

The attack on Mr Hartog, which took place on December 7, left him hospitalised and requiring stitches in a wound across the back of his head.
