Jeremy Corbyn and Mark Regev, the Israeli ambassador to Britain, held a private meeting on Monday, it has been confirmed.

The Israeli embassy in London would not confirm where the meeting took place, how long it lasted, or what the two men discussed.

Mr Corbyn’s office has not yet commented on the session.

Last month, Mr Corbyn replied to a letter from Israeli Labour Party leader Isaac Herzog – sent in May – expressing concerns about allegations of antisemitism within the British sister party.

Mr Corbyn thanked Mr Herzog for the invitation but said his “existing commitments make it impossible for me to take up your offer in the immediate future”.

He said he asked his party’s deputy leader Tom Watson, and general secretary Iain McNicol to go instead.

Mr Corbyn also said his party had zero tolerance for antisemitism and all other forms of bigotry.
