Singer Dua Lipa has been criticised after sharing an Instagram post which referred to members of the Israeli government as “fake Jewish ppl [people]”.

The British pop star, who has 46.4 million followers, appears to have removed the 336-word post by an Instagram user called 'Vinarfuso' in the wake of the criticism.

Making comparisons between the recent death of George Floyd and Palestinians, the post read: “The government which they hold no right to vote, a government which suffocates them socially, economically, and of course physically.

“Yet, the only ‘justification’ as to why they don’t deserve freedom is because ‘Hamas calls for the destruction of Israel.’

“Which is utterly HYSTERICAL bc [because] the United States (fake Christians in the mid west) and Israel (fake Jewish ppl [people] in the Israeli government) created Hamas SIMPLY for all of you geniuses to believe that hamas [sic] is the reasons for the decades worth of occupation, oppression, ethnic cleansing, and MURDER.”

The post later added: “To my dear Jewish friends and family, I love you all. This has NOTHING to do with you or religion, and all to do with justice and freedom.”

Jewish Journal columnist Hen Mazzig was among those on social media calling on Dua Lipa to take down the since-removed post.

"You shared a post calling *over SIX MILLION Jews* ‘fake jews’," he wrote.

Writer Eve Barlow wrote: “Woke up to see that synagogues in LA have been graffiti'd during the riots with the words FREE PALESTINE and F**K ISRAEL, and that dua lipa [sic] is spreading antisemitic posts on her IG feed.

“[H]ow dare you bring the jewish nation and community into the killing of black american lives.”

Dua Lipa’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
