The grandson of Auschwitz survivor Zigi Shipper has launched a crowdfunding campaign to make a film about his life.

Darren Richman, a journalist, has set up the campaign on the Kickstarter website to raise £10,000 to produce “Zigi & '8 4 3 0 3'”. Over £1,000 has already been donated.

The film will be based on an interview conducted with Mr Shipper by Jewish Sky presenter Olivia Wayne, with a script written by Mr Richman himself.

The production team said the work would tell Mr Shipper’s story “but should shed light on the millions of other tales that have and have not been told”.

Mr Shipper, who came to Britain after the war, works with university students and prisoners on Holocaust education.
He said: “I want people to know what hatred and prejudice can do. Hate will ruin your life.”

The film is due to go into production in December, and is expected to be screened at festivals and abroad.
