Nine times we've been reminded of the scale of antisemitism in Labour since Thursday

Last week's unprecedented joint front page by three Jewish newspapers triggered debate, anger and a backlash

Since the JC and two other Jewish papers took the unprecedented step of publishing the same front page to highlight Labour antisemitism, we have been inundanted with reminders of how big the problem is.

For those who have had better things to do in recent days, here are nine examples of the problem - all since we published our front page on Thursday.

1. Far-left blog Skwawkbox shared a blog post attacking 'The Jewish establishment’s war against Corbyn’

Skawkbox, a far-left fringe blog that attacks critics of Jeremy Corbyn and boasts of being influential among his circle, shared on Saturday a blog by Robert Cohen, who wrote that the outcry from British Jews last week was an exaggeration that “risks turning fake antisemitism into real antisemitism”.

Skwawkbox glowingly retweeted the post, calling it “pertinent and frightening”.

Skwawkbox later deleted the retweet but did not apologise. It said: “Retweeted a tweet earlier by a Jewish author, without endorsement and with the original title unchanged, commenting that it was frightening in the current circumstances. That tweet caused offence, which was not its intent and it has been deleted”.

But Skwawkbox continued its attacks on people speaking out, including retweeting one in which a Twitter user called for the BBC to be shut down for broadcasting an interview with a British Jewish family whose members claimed they were afraid for their future because of Jeremy Corbyn.

2. The Jewish Labour Movement received an email on Shabbat saying ‘Hitler was right’

The Jewish Labour Movement tweeted an antisemitic email they received over the weekend. Its author accused the JLM of behaving in such a way as “to convince millions of people that Hitler was right”.

He added that “Labour does not exist to be a second voice of Zionist Israel nor the Jewish mafia in NY”. He continued: “After 9/11 when Americans stood behind Wall St, how did the Jews (Goldman Sacks) thank them?” Answering his own question, the author added: “Repossession of millions of poor workers’ homes”.

3. Footage resurfaced of Jeremy Corbyn in 2012 suggesting Israel could be behind a terror attack on Egyptian police

The Board of Deputies of British Jews said that Mr Corbyn is leading Labour into a “dark place of ugly conspiracies,” after the footage

Author Dave Rich uncovered the footage, in which Corbyn appeared on Iran’s Press TV alongside Dr Abdul Aziz Umar, who received seven life sentences for helping plan the Café Hillel suicide bombing in Jerusalem in September 2003 that killed seven people.

The victims included Dr David Applebaum, who was head of the emergency room at Jersualem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Centre, and his daughter Nava, who was to be married the following day.

Dr Umar was released in 2011 as part of the prisoner swap for the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

In the Press TV footage, Mr Corbyn says: “You have to ask the question why they are in prison in the first place. I’m glad those who were released were released..

Seven months before Mr Corbyn’s appearance on the Iranian channel, it lost its Ofcom license after broadcasting the forced interrogation of a Newsweek journalist, who had been held in Iranian jail.

A Labour spokesperson said on Monday: “In 2012, Jeremy was commenting on the prison conditions of Palestinian prisoners, including elected representatives. He was of course in no way supporting or endorsing the actions of the prisoners, but defending their rights under international law.”

4. Billy Bragg said Jews need to rebuild trust with Labour

Billy Bragg, one of Mr Corbyn's biggest supporters in the arts, caused outrage on Sunday after making a series of comments, including that British Jews have “work to do” to rebuild trust with the Labour party.

He was discussing the role of the Jewish community in the row over antisemitism within the Labour party.

Mr Bragg tweeted a link to an article about the joint editorial of the three Jewish newspapers and said: “Austria is forcing Jews to register, the Alt-Right are chanting ‘Jews will not replace us’ but Labour pose an ‘existential threat’ to British Jews? How are we supposed to conduct a reasoned debate about antisemitism in such a febrile atmosphere?”

When someone commented that Labour should listen to the Jewish community’s concerns and discipline its members more quickly, Mr Bragg replied: “In order to do that, we have to build trust between Labour and the Jewish community and this does not help to achieve that. It’s pouring petrol on the fire.”

He replied to another tweet that British Jews have work to do “if they want to build trust”.

Mr Bragg, went on to say: “Instead they make things difficult by coming out with accusations that are out of all proportion."

Ivor Caplin, JLM chairman, said: “It’s outrageous that he would say this given the last couple of weeks and the Jewish community’s reaction to being ignored and dismissed over the Labour party’s definition of antisemitsm.

"Now saying that it is our job to rebuild trust is so wide of the mark it’s ludicrous. There will be lots of disappointed music fans tonight.”  Mr Bragg later apologised.

5. A Labour supporter posted on Facebook that Jews are “welcome to leave the UK” if Jeremy Corbyn wins the election

The Labour supporter tweeted the hashtag “normalisation of antisemitism”. He also called the country “a terrorist state which is forcing an illegal occupation on Palestinians”.

He went on to say: “It is disgraceful and they should be prosecuted in a court of law for war crimes committed against Palestinians”.

6. A Labour councillor was suspended over a Facebook post calling for execution of 'Talmud Jews'

Cllr Damien Enticott, who sits on Bognor Regis Town Council in Sussex, has been suspended from his party after a Facebook post in his name called for the execution of 'Talmud Jews'. The post shared an antisemitic video that claimed it was a “Jewish ritual” to “drink blood and suck baby’s d***. ”

The post said: "This is done by Talmud Jews. Talmud Jews are parasites!

"They also believe any child over the age of three years old that isn’t a Jew should be treated like a parasite, they believe it is ok to even rape that child because it is worthless. To treat a non Jew decently means you are as bad of them. All Talmuds need executing!”

Cllr Enticott told the JC that he was not responsible for the posts, saying: “The statement that was made wasn’t by myself. I don’t actually share antisemitic views at all.”

He said he lived in a shared house and had taken his passwords off the computer.

A Labour party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.”

Cllr Enticott later admitted he was responsible for the posts.

7. Ian Austin becomes second Labour MP to face disciplinary action over a confrontation with party colleague

It was revealed on Sunday that MP Ian Austin faces possible disciplinary action for a heated exchange with party chairman Ian Lavery over Labour's refusal to adopt the internationally recognised definition of antisemitism.

He told the JC that he did not "scream swear words in Ian Lavery's face" as had been reported.

Dame Margaret Hodge has also been threatened with formal action after she called Mr Corbyn "antisemitic and a racist" to his face in the House of Commons.

Speaking to the JC on Sunday, Mr Austin, who is the adopted child of a Jewish refugee, said: "I think this is a real crisis - and the leadership have got to sort it out...

"They think this is all being whipped up because that is what they have been told. Instead of dealing with the racism they end up attacking the people who are complaining about it.

"I think that is the most awful thing about this. How this become such a crisis in the Labour Party - I just despair."

8. Labour Party suspends councillor for accusing Jewish papers of working for Mossad

Labour is investigating Scottish councillor Mary Bain Lockhart after she accused this paper, as well as the Jewish News and the Jewish Telegraph of working on behalf of Mossad.

Ms Lockhart, a councillor for the Scottish Labour Party, made her remarks following the decision taken by the three main Jewish Newpapers in the UK adopting the #UnitedWeStand front page.

The suspended councillor wrote in a now deleted Facebook post:  “If the purpose is to generate opposition to antisemitism, it has backfired spectacularly. (I)f it is to get rid of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Leader, it is unlikely to succeed, and is a shameless piece of cynical opportunism.

“And if it is a Mossad assisted campaign to prevent the election of a Labour Government pledged to recognise Palestine as a State, it is unacceptable interference in the democracy of Britain”.

She also said: “Israel is a racist State. And since the Palestinians are also Semites, it is an antisemitic State. It is time we stopped propitiating".

A Labour Party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.

"All complaints about antisemitism are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”

9. Pete Willsman's rant about Jewish 'Trump fanatics' is revealed

The JC reported Pete Willsman, Jeremy Corbyn's closest ally on Labour's governing body, had told a meeting of it that some Jews were "Trump fanatics"  and he had never seen antisemitism in the party. He later apologised but claimed what he said had not been "accurately reported". On Monday, we revealed the audio that showed Mr Willsman angrily told the meeting: "I am not going to be lectured to by Trump fanatics making up duff information without any evidence at all."

The JC story prompted Jewish Labour MP Luciana Berger to call for him to be suspended. Marie van der Zyl, president of the Board of Deputies, called for Mr Willsman to be expelled from the party.
