Rock star Bono has made an unlikely appearance at Park East Synagogue in New York after being invited by Rabbi Schneier.

The two men met while working for the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, an interfaith partnership founded by Rabbi Schneier in 1965. The foundation works closely on the same issues as Bono's ONE Foundation, on issues like international poverty and HIV.

Bono, wearing a white kippah, was greeted by congregants singing 'Shalom Aleichem' as he entered the syngogue.

He paid tribute to the work of Rabbi Schneider and said: "I’m so honored to be here, my work as an activist is based on the idea that everybody is equal. And this idea of equality, you guys kind of invented it.”

He sang an accapella version of one of U2 famous hits 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' with the audience joining him on the chorus.
